Meet Ronniq - A Child Determined to Learn
Among the hundreds of children walking through the gates of Joy School each day is a 9-year-old boy named Ronniq.
Every morning, Ronniq begins a long journey from his home in the mountains. He walks along steep paths and crosses fragile bridges, often arriving at school tired—and hungry. Yet he comes. Because he knows that education is his opportunity.
Ronniq’s Journey to school
When Ronniq enters his classroom, he joins dozens of other children in a space that is far too small for them all. There are no desks. Children sit closely together, balancing books on their laps. To write, Ronniq sometimes climbs onto a bench—raising himself just enough to create a surface to lean on as he writes.
It is difficult. It is uncomfortable.
But he does not give up.
Happy to be in class
For children like Ronniq, Joy Nursery School is more than a place of learning—it is a gateway to a different future. It's a place where God-given talents are nurtured.
Many children like Ronnig arrive at school on empty stomachs, making it hard to concentrate.
Ronniq’s class time
Through Watchmen’s support, they receive a daily cup of porridge—something simple, yet transformative. It gives them the energy to focus, to participate, and to remain in school.
Unfortunately, the kitchen of the school is only an open structure. On days of rain, which are frequent in the Rwenzori area, porridge is not to be prepared. On those days, children are hungry through lessons, waiting for afternoon meals, if they have them at all.
